Corbett Community Library April newsletter

We’re so delighted to be recognised along with all the other amazing council led and community libraries for our service excellence! Thank you to all the staff, volunteers, authors and activity partners that have shared their work with our community, and all of you for your custom and ongoing support.

We have lots going on over the next month including some Easter activities and extra things for our young readers. We have an Easter Hair Braiding activity during the first week of the holidays and a new after school art class starting after Easter along with a whole timetable of health and wellbeing sessions starting on Wednesday 23rd April - which is a very special day including St George’s Day, Shakespeare’s birthday, and my birthday! Let’s hope the sun shines on us all…

Please note, we’re closed on Easter Monday.

Rachel, Ruth and all the CCL Team

‘FRIENDS’ UPDATE

The support from people signing up to be ‘Friends Of’ the library has been invaluable and a great help in combatting ongoing costs such as a massive gas bill! If any of you donated a one off annual fee in 2024 we would be extremely grateful if you would consider donating again for 2025 or setting up a standing order to contribute monthly. Please use the bank details below to set up with your bank directly.

CHANGE OF BANK DETAILS FOR ALL STANDING ORDERS

Due to upcoming changes in the terms of our bank accounts, we will no longer be able to receive direct payments into the designated Friends account from 14 April 2025. So any ‘Friends’ who pay by Standing Order with your bank, you will need to change the account details for the Archibald Corbett Community Library:

Update to new bank account: 29296660 (Old bank account: 31024468). The sort code is unchanged: 30-99-12

This is our main trading account so please make sure you keep your reference as "Friends" so that we can identify any donations clearly. We apologise for the inconvenience caused. Thank you again for your continued support.

Gallery SE6's art exhibition celebrating 50 years of the Catford Cat will be coming to an end on Thursday 3 April. But don't worry, more art is coming - from 4 April until 2 May, Carol Mullings will be bringing spring inside the library with her vibrant flower paintings! Her free official opening, including fully licensed bar, is on Thursday 10 April at 6-8pm, and everyone is welcome to attend!

Volunteer interviews: Kassandra and Cheryl

Kassandra

Why did you decide to volunteer here? To be useful in the community and have something to do while I’m looking for a job.

What’s your favourite thing about volunteering here? The range of activities and support, for example Employability Support 1-2-1, and the welcoming and helpful volunteers.

Can you sum up the library in three words? Busy, active, friendly

Why would you recommend the library? It’s a community resource, where anyone can come and take part in different activities.

Cheryl

Why did you decide to volunteer here? I’d been made redundant and it was a good opportunity, a chance to help save the library and do something in the community.

What’s your favourite thing about volunteering here? The work varies, it’s enjoyable and I get to meet new people as well as reading books when there’s time!

Can you sum up the library in three words? Welcoming, staff team, beautiful building

Why would you recommend the library? The range of books and activities for all ages, computer access, mostly free services including the Online Support Services and support for older people such as the Monday Get Together.

VOLUNTEER NEEDED

Would you like to join our team? We are looking for a volunteer to work with our Online Support Services Team to help customers complete application forms. Many of our customers are digitally excluded and find form filling difficult. We help with this by supporting them to complete applications such as Blue Badge, pension credit, bus passes etc, If you think you could help for 3 hours each week please get in touch with Rachel .
