Corbett Community Library August Newsletter

August Newsletter

There is nothing better than laying in the warmth of the sun reading a good book! During the summer we have a little bit more down time, time to relax, possibly time off and if lucky a holiday. We don’t have any major events on this month, in the library, but we have lots of lovely workshops related to the Summer Reading Challenge and we’d like to encourage all of you, not just the children to take this opportunity to read a little more or read at all!

Scroll down to find out what ‘Marvellous Makers’ workshops we have lined up and all about the Adult Reading Challenge.

We hope you are enjoying the sun, which finally has it’s hat on, and we hope to see you here collecting your next book very soon…

Summer Reading Challenge

The Summer Reading Challenge has got off to a great start with over 900 children signing up in the borough and 50 here at Corbett. But we want more! Please help us reach record numbers and bring your children in to sign up. Encouraging children to keep reading through the summer is great for their all round wellbeing and happiness and can have a positive impact on your child. Not only does it develop their vocabulary and help them at school but it helps develop creativity, empathy and their self esteem.

Your child can take part for free by signing up within our library or online at summerreadingchallenge.org.uk. They’ll collect rewards for their reading, and we’re running a variety of related workshops over the summer holidays!

MORE UPCOMING EVENTS

After the success of last years Charity Art Auction we are running another one this November. Last year we were lucky enough to be donated 40 creations which helped us to raise over £2000 which really helps us to stay open, pay our bills and deliver much needed services for our community. Were particular looking for headline artists. We will promote your work through our networks and social media and hope to have an exhibition space within our library by October to display work prior to the auction! If interested please get in touch with our art coordinator [email protected]
