And RELAX… the sun is shining at last! The weather makes everything seem better and the world a brighter, happier place. Perhaps it makes you want to venture out more, take up new activities or simply sit in the garden with a good book!
We’re gearing up for the Summer Reading Challenge with lots of new books coming in. This years theme is Marvellous Makers and we have some exciting creative workshops lined up throughout the summer.
We are currently getting ready for our biggest community event of the year Corbfest! This is a chance for the whole community to come together and celebrate this lovely place and all the talent we host in Catford from performers, artists, gifted bakers, florists and bands! We really hope you will find the time to visit all three sites with the following line up…
Rachel, Ruth and all the CCL Team
Corbfest 2024 at Corbett Community Library, Abbotshall HLC and St Andrews Church

Summer Reading Challenge
Unleash Your Creativity with the Marvellous Makers Summer Reading Challenge!
The Summer Reading Challenge returns with an exciting new theme for 2024 - Marvellous Makers! Developed by The Reading Agency in partnership with the charity Create, this year's Challenge celebrates children's creativity and storytelling abilities.
From the 6th July to 22nd September, your child can take part for free at your local library or online at summerreadingchallenge.org.uk. They’ll collect rewards for their reading, and we’re running a variety of related workshops over the summer holidays! Keep an eye out for these and get involved!

Summer Reading Challenge Creative Workshops
Saturday 13th July 11-1pm ‘Design your own piece of Art’
We are kicking off the challenge with a FREE art workshop. We are inviting young people to draw/ paint or colour a picture of their own design inspired by a book, their love of reading or the Library. We will frame each A4 picture and have an exhibition at the end of the challenge. The best two pieces will be submitted to our art auction in November 2024!
Saturday 3rd August 11.30 - 12.30 Story crafting workshop with local author Allison Parkinson, sharing writing hints and tips
She will explain why she wrote her Laurella Swift historical fantasy trilogy (which chronicles the time-travelling adventures of a mixed-race Catford schoolgirl) and show how she used items found in local charity shops to help develop the plots. Allison will also share writing hints and tips and distribute a range of everyday items to help fire young imaginations.
This FREE workshop is aimed at children aged between 7-12 and will last for approximately one hour. Signed copies of Allison’s books will also be available for purchase.

Pat-a-Cake Paws visit
We were lucky enough to have a visit from these three adorable fur- balls, who attended our Tuesday Get Together session (Dementia Friendly, every other Tuesday 11-12.30). Their presence alone was enough to uplift spirits and create an atmosphere of sheer delight. Interactions with dogs has proven to be extremely beneficial to the mind, body and general wellbeing for all. Our attendee’s certainly enjoyed petting and cuddling them. We have Pat-a-Cake Paws back this weekend for our Jackynory session and again for Corbfest. We’d like to thank them for attending and bringing joy to our customers! https://www.patacakepaws.com/patacakepawsvisits
