This year is flying by and we can’t believe it’s already June! The sun has been shining and we’re starting to think about our holidays and our summer reads. Check out our free books outside as well as our library collection and bookshop. As usual, we have lots going on so do keep reading…

CORBFEST 2025 - SPONSOR NEEDED

After the success of our VE Day Spring Market with 350 visitors and a lovely ambiance, we are next looking forward to Corbfest! This annual growing festival is on its 4th year, and we are hoping it will be bigger and better. We use this event as a fundraiser delivered by us, Abbotshall HLC, St Andrews Church, and Torridon Convenience Store. It is a true celebration of the Corbett Estate, all that is great about living here, its residents and the talent it houses. By hosting this event we aim to develop and harness the feeling of community cohesion as well as raise much needed funds to keep the library and Abbotshall running. If you know of any organisation that would be happy to sponsor this event, they will have their logo on all the advertising, a page in the Corbfest Brochure that goes out to 4000 houses on the estate and a warm fuzzy feeling that they have helped! Please get in touch with me if interested, [email protected]

As we say goodbye to Nicki Massos’ vibrant prints, we welcome Ewelina Szymanska for the June Gallery SE6 art exhibition. Her free official opening, including a bar, is on Thursday 19th June 6-8pm, and everyone is welcome to attend!

Dora’s sourdough bread stall

On Saturday 7th June 10-1pm we will have Dora outside the library selling her home-made Sourdough bread and crackers. She will be doing this every two-three weeks. Joining her will be Whiskers and Green selling home-grown, heirloom and non-heirloom vegetables, flowers and herb seedlings, perfect for gardens of all sizes. Do pop by and grab yourself some local produce from our talented residents!

Volunteer interviews: Loraine and Sue D

Loraine

Why did you decide to volunteer here? After retirement from full time work, I was seeking something to commit to in the community, where I could contribute useful skills, learn new ones and feel a sense of fulfilment.

What’s your favourite thing about volunteering here? Engaging with a wide range of people.

Can you sum up the library in three words? Welcoming, caring, supportive

Why would you recommend the library? Everyone is welcome in the library and there’s something for everyone.

Sue D

Why did you decide to volunteer here? I thought I ought to, as it’s a shame if libraries can’t open. When I retired I had the time to.

What’s your favourite thing about volunteering here? Just generally I like it all, but especially helping children out.

Can you sum up the library in three words? Friendly, accommodating, a little bit noisy!

Why would you recommend the library? Nice colleagues, bright, you’re doing something useful, and you can access all sorts of information.
