March Newsletter

MARCH - SPRING IS IN THE AIR!

…and we have a Gruffalo and a mouse in the Children’s Library! We’d like to introduce our new mural, painted by one of our talented volunteers, Sue Davidson. Thanks Sue, we love it.

This month we are busy bees and full of the joys of spring with our quirky  annual Quiz Night (16th), and our buzzing Spring Makers Market (23rd)! We also have Mother’s Day flower fun, (6th and 13th) and a book launch (30th March).

Meanwhile, our Just Giving page has been updated and revamped (thanks to hard work from Jane and Alison on our board). This time last year, many of you were kind enough to sign up to our ‘Friends of’ scheme and set up an annual direct debit of £10. Others of you gave a one-off donation. We are asking if you could think about doing this again?

Why do we require donations, you might ask? Well…

Our Library has grown into a much loved cultural hub for the Corbett Estate. But despite it’s success, it’s future is far from secure. The service simply can’t be run by volunteers alone and with increasing bills, in addition to staff costs we still rely on the generosity of our community and the support of our ‘Friends’.

If you are able to, help us by either renewing your Friendship or becoming a Friend: or giving a one off donation that would be great. If you don’t like clicking please pop into the library to collect a standing order form.

Thank you, your support really will make a difference!

The Gruffalo, the mouse and the team look forward to seeing you at our place,

Rachel, Harriet and all the CCL Team

MARCH EVENTS

Big Cheesy Quiz Night!

Join us for a fun and interactive quiz night with fully licensed bar, set in our beautiful library. There will be 6-8 rounds including picture, music, general knowledge and a little bit of cheese! We are looking for teams of 2-6. You can team up with other people on arrival if you prefer.

Tickets can be be bought here or within the library.

You can also pre-book a cheeseboard for your table. This will come with 5 cheeses, crackers, chutney and grapes for a whole table of 6 people to enjoy and costs £30, just £5 per person.

So, put your thinking cap on and join us for an enjoyable, local night out!

ACTIVITIES

All our activities can be found on our website and on Lewisham Libraries Events Pages. We have sessions across the week to help you be your best self.

…And we’d love to see more faces at this joyful drop-in group Tuesday Get Together? All are welcome at this inclusive activity but it is also dementia friendly with games, bingo, tea/coffee/biscuits and a singalong!

BOOK DAY

World Book Day is March 7th and we have two initiatives in place to support and celebrate the event:

We have a clothes rail under the dome for costume swapping.

Next to our clothes rail, we have created a WBD children’s book shop where all paperbacks are £1, all hardbacks are £2 AND if you buy 2 books, you get 1 free! Available for the whole of March or until we run out of books.

Help and Support

Need help with employment, technology or online forms? Visit us on Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays.

Lost a loved one and need some emotional support? Pop in on Thursdays 12pm-2pm for our Bereavement Help Point.

Home and Online Libraries

Last month, we highlighted that Lewisham Library Service offer a Home Library Service to residents and their carers who are not able to visit the library.

Call 020 8314 6254 or speak to a member of staff to find out more or click here.

Did you also know that you can look at books and listen to audiobooks for free, using your library card? Click here for more information.
